How to add Blenda to your Shopify store
Blenda adds a "See it on your wall" button to your Shopify product pages. A buyer taps it, their camera opens, and your artwork appears on their own wall at its real size.
Before you start
You need a Blenda account and a Shopify store. The whole setup takes about ten minutes, and you never touch code.
Step 1: Install the Blenda app
Install Blenda from the Shopify App Store, open it from your Shopify admin, and press Connect. It asks for your Blenda API key, which you will find in your Blenda dashboard under Settings.
Step 2: Import your products
Press Import products. Blenda reads your Shopify catalogue and creates an artwork for each product automatically, so in most cases you never upload anything by hand.
For each product it takes three things:
- The size, read from your variant titles. "50x70", "50 x 70 cm" and "A3" are all understood.
- The image whose proportions best match that size. It prefers an image whose filename says it is the flat artwork, and avoids ones whose name looks like a mockup or a room scene.
- The product page, used as the buy link inside the preview.
Re-importing updates what is already there rather than creating duplicates, so it is safe to run again whenever you add products.
Then press Sync now. That connects the artworks to your products so the button knows where to appear. Products with no matching artwork are left alone, so the button never shows up on a mug or a gift card.
Your product images decide whether this looks convincing
Import uses the images already in your Shopify product gallery, so the preview is only ever as good as what is in there. This is the one thing worth getting right.
- Include a flat, straight-on image of the artwork, cropped tightly to its edges.
- No white borders, no page margins, no background around the piece. Whatever is used gets placed on the wall exactly as it is, so a white border becomes a white border hanging in the buyer’s room.
- If you sell the piece framed, use an image of it framed and cropped to the outer edge of the frame. The frame is part of what they are buying, so it belongs in the preview.
- If you sell it unframed, crop to the edge of the paper or canvas.
- Lifestyle photos of the work already hanging on a wall are the one to avoid. Those arrive on the buyer’s wall complete with the original wall behind them.
After importing, Blenda lists any product where it was not confident it found a flat image. That list is worth a look, and it is usually the fastest way to spot a product whose gallery leads with a mockup.
What import skips
- Products with no readable size in the variant title. Add the size and import again.
- Products with no usable image.
- Products whose handle is longer than 50 characters.
If your catalogue mixes art with other merchandise, set a product type in the app settings and Blenda will only look at those products.
Step 3: Upload by hand, if you need to
Only needed if import skipped something, or if you would rather choose the exact file yourself. In your Blenda dashboard, upload the piece and enter its real dimensions in centimetres or inches. The same image guidance above applies, and the size is what makes the preview honest.
Step 4: Add the button to your product page
In Shopify, go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize. Open a product page, press Add block in the product section, and choose Blenda. Drag it just below your Add to cart button and save.
The button borrows your theme’s own colours by default, so it looks like it belongs. You can set your own colours in the block settings if you would rather.
Step 5: Check it on your phone
Open one of your product pages on a phone and press the button. Your buyers install nothing; it opens straight in their browser. On a computer you will see a QR code instead, which is deliberate: a desktop browser has no useful camera, so the code hands the experience to the visitor’s phone.
Selling the same design in several sizes
Upload the design once. Each size you sell is just a different link, and the button passes the size a buyer has selected, so a 30x40 variant shows at 30x40 and a 70x100 shows at 70x100. There is no need to upload the same picture repeatedly.
If the button does not appear
- The product has no matching artwork in Blenda. Press Import products, then Sync now, and read the report in the app.
- The product was skipped at import because its variant title has no readable size. Add the size and import again.
- The block has not been added to the theme, or was added to the wrong section. Re-check Step 4.
- You are looking at a product that is not published, or a theme that is not the live one.
Still stuck, email support@blenda.art with a link to the product page and we will look at it.
